保护价值 Conservation Value

猪血木为山茶科单种属植物，兼具红淡经属Cleyera和柃属Eurya的形态特征。对研究这些类群的亲缘关系以及它在厚皮香亚科Ternstroemoideae中的发育位置等都具有极其重要的科研价值。同时其木材结构细致，适于造船及建筑和家具用材。

E. excelsum is a tree species belonging to the monotypic genus Euryodendron, which covers the morphological characteristics of both the Cleyera and Eurya.  Its unique phylogenetic position in the sub-family Ternstroemoideae is very important for studying the relationship of the origin and evolution of the plants in this sub-family.  Furthermore, the wood materials of E. excelsum are very well and suitable for shipbuilding and construction timber and furniture.

保护现状 Conservation Status

目前阳春市当地镇政府和保护区对现存的几棵主要的猪血木古树以及一个残余的猪血木大居群进行了有效的保护措施。同时中科院华南植物园的研究人员也正从就地及迁地保护的角度对这些残余居群和个体进行深入的保护研究，包括建立就地保护点以及研究从种子和枝条进行人工繁殖的方法。

Positive efforts have been made by local government to conserve several old E. excelsum trees in the Bajia town, many other remnants or young seedlings are under threats.  Moreover, efforts on the in situ and ex situ conservation activities have been made by the researchers in the South Botanical Garden to rescue this endangered species, including setting up in situ site in the Bajia town and studying the propagation methods of this species from seeds and shoots.
